Happiest Baby on the Block Classes
|
The idea behind the Happiest Baby program is not a
new one. Many cultures around the world practice
similar soothing techniques, and colic is virtually
unheard of in these societies. The Happiest Baby
technique is based on these time tested parenting
skills, which Dr. Karp has divided into 5 steps to
soothe fussy babies. These five steps are known as
the “5 S’s”. The 5 S’s, which are Swaddle, Side,
Shushing, Swinging and Sucking, help fulfill the basic
needs of the newborn and help to soothe by imitating
the womb. By creating a womb-like atmosphere,
newborns can be eased into the world in a much more
peaceful and calm way. The 5 S’s help strengthen
families by allowing parents to get more rest…function
better at work…and feel more successful!
If you are interested in a private Happiest Baby on the
Block class, please let me know and we will arrange
this before your due date so you can utilize this
wonderful technique once the baby is born. Class is
even very helpful if you have up to a 3 month old! Class
lasts approximately 2 hours in length.
The Happiest Baby approach offers numerous benefits
to families, including:
• Fewer calls to MD’s with screaming, sleepless
babies
• More nursing success…with resultant improved
infant health
• Less postpartum depression
• Less Shaken Baby Syndrome
• Less spousal abuse
• Less SIDS (these techniques help babies sleep
better, so desperate parents are not tempted to place
their sleepless babies in bed, on the stomach…and
swaddling prevents accidental rolling to stomach.
Swaddling may also help reduce the risk of SIDS by
increasing an infant’s arousability during sleep).
Please call me for classes (group or private), prices and specials.

The Happiest Baby Program is a national curriculum dedicated to teaching parents an innovative new approach to quickly calm crying babies and help them sleep a little longer. Half of all new babies cry and fuss more than two hours a day. Their prolonged crying often causes exhaustion, breastfeeding failure, marital stress, maternal depression, and even child abuse. But this extraordinary program, based on the work of Dr. Harvey Karp, MD, FAAP, has the potential of reducing that demoralizing crying to just minutes a day.
